Strike in the Dark
You are alone, bricked-up and boneless,
but oh so wondrous.
You’ll have someone’s eye out with that jaw.
So many loves.
The last one still wants to.
If he can’t have you,
he’ll stop you looking out for more.
Or at least that’s what you say when I shove my feelings your way.
When I strike, I strike in the dark.
No one remarks and no one detains me.
When I walk, I get in your way,
but no one else makes a space I’m inclined to try.
I was in love for at least six hours.
You didn’t seem to notice.
I must be more subtle than I know.
There’s nothing wrong with being cautious,
like there’s nothing wrong with 1973.
Or at least that’s what I’ll say as I put my feelings away.
You’ll have someone’s eye out with that jaw of yours.
You’ll put someone’s lights out with that way of yours.
